Nortan Systemworks/Internet Security related question

Aug 30, 2004 6:19AM PDT

I have Systemworks 2003 and Internet Security 2004 and I was having some problems with updating them (live update) so I uninstalled the products as I was told to on their website. I then tryed to reinstall the products and had some problems there so I went to look at their site again and was told to delete any file that had a cc before it in the C:/Programs/Common Files/Nortan (i forget if it was nortan or symantec) anyways, I did that and the softwear installed weird (systemworks was ok but when i started it it said some CCApp error) and Internet Securty which had all kind of weird errors during installation and when it was done it turns out it only installed antivirus and some other files for internet securty but nothing that was needed to run the actual application (which sucked because I needed to open the application and log onto it before I was allowed to even delete it and I can reinstall it before its deleted) so I went and uninstalled systemworks and the rest of the nortan stuff (live update, live reg.) and just deleted the nortan internet security file (in programs) and the stuff for it in start menu all in safemode. I dont want to try to install it again till I know ALL of the nortan stuff is gone, a complete wipe of their softwear. That way I wont encounter more problems. The file in programs/common files is also gone. Is there any other files I need to delete or any thing in regedit I need to delete. Thanks for the help.

I posted a similar problem with nsw 2004 pro on here. I may have a solution for you though, in trying to fix MY problem I can across a full uninstaller for nsw 2003 that didnt work for 2004.
Ironic thing is its on the symantec ftp server! lol
here's the link:

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/norton_systemworks/ver5.0/tools/SYMCLN.EXE

also there is one for internet security 2003 but not 2004 but ill give that anyway:

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/RnisUPG.exe

hope this helps!

Hey Scott!
You are wise to assume that getting Norton off your system is not so quick and easy.
Go into the start menu, click search, choose all files and folfers, choose advanced options, click every one except "case sensitive". In the search bar type Norton and delete every entry that appears. Then type Symantec and delete every entry that appears.
Get yourself a good registry utility and run that in safe mode. I rcommend TweakNow as it is free and very well received by almost all the software review sites.(Checkout my posting at:http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6138-0.html?forumID=31&threadID=33881&messageID=493895) Delete all the Norton and Symantec entries it finds.
Also go into regedit and Click Edit then Find type Symantec and keep looking untio the last Symantec entry is gone. On my system F3 is the button to use to keep looking for the selected entry. Then type Norton and keep looking until every last Norton entry is gone. Then get out of Regedit and restart your computer.
