Normal to dark sides with tv off? ln46a550

Mar 3, 2009 7:49AM PST

When the tv is off we can notice the dark sides of the screen. The dark sides represent what would be dark if viewing 4:3 programming. Just wondering if this is normal. Thanks.

Dark sides?

tdewees,

I'm not sure I understand the question, but here's what I was able to deduct:

You're able to notice where 4:3 programming would be if the television was displaying the picture; except that the television is off and you can notice this, correct?

Yes, the 4:3 area is lighter and the sides are darker. Also, it's easier to see this if there is light reflecting off of the screen from a distance.

Nothing is noticable when viewing 16:9 programming, but this is our first hdtv and we've had it for almost a month and just want to make sure it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I haven't been able to find any boards that discuss this.

Thanks.

tdewees,

Well, I checked with some of our gurus, and nobody has heard anything about that. I'm not sure what to advise, except suggesting that you go into a 16x9 picture. If the picture looks normal (even colors, etc), then it's probably not causing any significant issue for your picture quality.
