noob needs advice on laptop

I know very little about laptops. I will be needing one to play dvds at a regular pace...no stalling. Could someone tell me what is the fastest internet service? I can surf the internet anywhere right? I told you I was a noob. If someone could recommend a really good monitor brand that would be great. I like a really good picture. I will also be using it for college papers, assignments, logging into online classrooms. I want to have video clips on it but the internet is very important to me. I was looking at alienware laptops but I really don't know what I'm looking for. Could someone either start me out or make a recommendation. Sorry for the long post but this is really important to me.

Wow, you have the money to buy alienware?

You might want to look at the Hp compaq nc8000 which has an independent video chip. It may be more than enough for playing your dvd's.

You may also want to look at Sony laptops at Sonystyle USA. Just get one with enough memory, an independent graphics chip and has a wXGA screen with Xbrite technology. Try the Sony Vaio VGN-S480(13 inch screen) or the Sony Vaio FS500P12
