nonpaged pool empty?

Nov 23, 2003 10:47AM PST

I have a new Compaq Presario X1010 with 512MB Ram running XP Home. When I leave my computer on overnight to do scheduled tasks the next day the screen is blank and the system is hung. After I restart and check the event viewer I see this message repeated many times. "Srv Event ID 2019". "The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty". I hope someone can help me out here, I have tried two other forums and spent hours on the microsoft site to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I searched the Symantec site and didn't find any referrence to my problem. Maybe it is a McAfee problem only. I'm using NSW 2003.
I am using Stomp Backup My PC which used to be a Veritas product. I did find an update to update me from 4.81 to 5 I think. I'll hope that fixes the problem.
Thanks for the reply. It has given me some options to explore. Someone else sent me to a Microsoft Support article about Afs.sys or something like that which was way over my head.

Stomp and Intel Accelerator.
Nov 24, 2003 10:45AM PST

I admired the Stomp product but a few people found issues that I have not revisited if the Intel Accelerator software was installed. I couldn't see any speed difference so it was ejected.

I can't write that Stomp or that is the issue, but am noting it.

Just for the record my computer has a Intel Centrino chip. I don't know about that accelerator program though.

Minor input. The Centrino is NOT a chip.

It is a computer [laptop that uses a Pentium M CPU [chip} a specific chiset [frget its number, but it has the 400 MHz FSB] and has a wireless card. Requires the three to be called a Centrino. Does not say which speed Pentium M that you have.

OK not a chip but integrated. I mentioned it only because Intel and Backup My PC were brought up.

Stomp denies that their program, Backup My PC, has anything to do with my problem. Of course. They did ask for a screen dump of the error message though.

Not enough to work with.
Nov 28, 2003 10:44AM PST

While you can read all the links at http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=2019&source= I can't comment very much here because there isn't enough written about what's new or not-stock on this new machine.

As you can see in eventid.net and http://www.google.com/search?&q=Event+ID+2019 there is a lot to look over. Including output from TASKLIST and TASKLIST /SVC may give clues as well as what I noted above.

Please don't take this wrong, but the issue you have isn't caused by "product X in a Y configuration." So the more you write, the more likely some forum reader can chime in with an idea. Right now, I can only guess it's software or driver related...

My Compaq Presario X1010 with 512MB Ram and XP Home is as purchased hardware wise. I have a Acom USB 2.0 External drive connected sometimes. I have updated my SoundMax drivers and the bios. This is my third laptop. I am connected to a wireless home network, workgroup not domain and didn't have a problem before. I thought I had passed the noob stage, but maybe not. Most of the articles I have read concerning this problem relate to Server 2000 - 2003, and I am wondering if they are relevant.
This problem started almost as soon as I got this computer. I have installed numerous programs that may be suspect. They are Norton System Works 2003, GoBack, Diskeeper, Pest Patrol,ZoneAlarm, Easy CD Creator, Office XP,Webshots, Backup My PC, and WeatherBug Pro. I have been to all their sites looking for updates and info, but to no avail.

A general view of KB articles and how they apply.
Nov 29, 2003 10:00PM PST

Let me supply one firm example of where KB articles apply to Windows ME and the article in fact is what is used to fix the issue stated, but no mention of this varient of 95/98 ->
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=192315
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=233339

You may reply that my example is not about NT, 2000 or XP. Any you are right. I am using an EXAMPLE of many of the issue at hand.

Here's the deal. Windows 2000 was based on Windows NT work. Windows XP is based on Windows 2000. When digging for your documented issue, the same afflictions of the prior OS can often be the problem or cure.

I see a few items on your software list that had been noted as spyware in the past. I'll leave that up to you.

------------------------------
Easy CD Creator can be a troublesome item since any version before Roxio's 5.x version is not supported under XP and there are scattered reports of success, but mostly failure with the older version.

Bottomline? I see in your software list, noted trouble makers. Even System Works 2003 had glitches in Symantec's update of the "common client."

In fact, if I were to trouble shoot this one, I would remove all I could from the startup of the machine and eject all spyware/parasites and see if the issue vanishes. Then add each item and see if the issue comes back.

Network Drivers possibly?
Nov 30, 2003 12:57AM PST

Old Intel Network Drivers Leak Memory
If you haven't updated your Intel network adapter drivers recently, the drivers might exhibit a slow memory leak that causes system performance to degrade over time, resulting in a hang when the leak exhausts the nonpaged memory pool. One sign of this problem is a message in the System event log with event ID 2019 and the message the server was unable allocate from the system non-paged pool because the Pool was empty. You can recover a system hang caused by a memory leak by simply rebooting, but you need current Intel drivers to permanently solve the problem. For more details about the problem, read the Microsoft article "Server Runs Slowly or Stops Responding, and Event ID 2019 Is Logged in the System Event Log" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826726).

Check here too

This process might help you ID the actual leak

Bob has already mentioned that a reference may not specifically mention Windows XP as XP and Win 2K are based on the NT kernel.
