Question

Noncopyright Video capture/download software/hardware (Kigo?

Aug 1, 2015 11:42AM PDT

I would like to find out about video+audio capture/download from youtube and dailymotion using a Mac (OS X Yosemite 10.10.4). I tried using Airplay on Apple TV and connecting an Pioneer DVD recorder but that doesn't work. So I wondered if there was software available to record directly to Mac (and then possibly convert with Handbrake). I found a CNET review of Kigo Video Downloader for Mac which may work but not sure. Also didn't know if there might be some type of USB connector I could connect my Mac directly to the DVD recorder and save that way. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Youtube forbids that.

" You shall not download any Content unless you see a “download” or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content. "
https://www.youtube.com/static?template=terms

This is partly why you find so little help on that. Also, so many Youtube downloaders are trojaned, infected or just malware.

So there it is. Many folk want to download so for Youtube we just look for the download button. Asking for help is like asking for help to jack a car. Please don't.

As to Dailymotion they may have a similar service agreement so again why there is so little help for this.

Gotcha, thanks. So what is a program like Kigo? I'm not really understanding what it does or if it would be safe then? Would it record what was playing on your screen like a screen saver or instructional video or something?

Kigo should answer.

While I've used screen recorders to snag a sample which is fair use some want to download a movie or entire YouTube which is forbidden. Hey, if you want to do that, just don't ask and don't tell. Otherwise this CBS sponsored forum has little choice but to close the discussion.

As to Kigo, if they won't answer questions, and reviews don't answer they are not worth further investigation.

Something rather damming was found too. I see this was put up on a download site in 2013 and not one review to date. That's a bad sign.

Snagging a sample
Aug 1, 2015 12:20PM PDT

Yes, "snagging a sample" is what I mean. Not a movie or entire video. I go to the $5 DVD bins or eBay for movies I want. Happy I'm just not great at explaining what I'm trying to do. Hence my husband's exasperation with me, lol. And no review is a bad sign for sure! Yikes. Last question then......is there anything you would recommend for obtaining a sample like that?

depending on the browser you use, there are addons that will download videos. this way you do not have to play the whole video in order to screen record.
