Non copyable photos?

Feb 6, 2007 6:24PM PST

How can you make photos in a gallery on your web page noncopyable? I have seen some web sites where you don't get a copy option when you right click. Is there a special code for this?

disables the right click option but...

If you use a browser like Mozilla Firefox, I can use the right click option using the extension NoScript.

I have been to a photograhy website and they either use a very detailed watermark or they save it in a special format. I can't remember the format that they used but I tried saving one of the pictures and when I opened it, it was blank. I think you want the later for your website.

The image you saw was a background image, the one you downloaded was a transparent (empty) image covering the background -so you thought you were getting the photo - but all you took was the blank gif.

Bottom line- if it's on the internet, it can be saved -and for every "trick" you come up with to "protect" your images, there's a bunch of folks who know how to by-pass you. A good way to protect yourself is to use watermarks (and even there are people who can clean up the photo good enough to get rid of that.
