NON CMC Discs?

Apr 13, 2007 6:26AM PDT

I have litescribe and I am having problems with Verbatin Cd-r. I never had problems with these discs until CMC Magnetics Corp started making them.
I am not having problems with Litescribe it is the recording side that is giving me problems. Can someone please tell me what companies do not use CMC Magnetics Corp. I know Phillips, TDK and Verbatim are being made this manufactuer. I know Taiyo Yuden use to make Verbatim disc. The problem is that Taiyo Yuden does not make litescribe. Any help, thanks in advance.

But have you tried the usual things? (cd/dvd lens cleaner, firmware update, slow the speed to 2x, pop the lid off the computer (heat))

Oh yes this is a fairly new computer. I have no doubt it is the disc's. Plus I am not the only one have problems with Verbatim which use to be very good. So I need to find a company whose discsnot made by CMC Magnetics. I see Memorex is litescribe, but are they made in Japan(good), China(bad). Thanks

I've been using HP media.

A little pricey but not a failure.

Weird, I haven't heard of this issue. I wonder if it's the old firmware issue. Can you tell me the make of the drive and it's firmware version?

cd-r discs

So HP is ok. I have a HP notebook, but never bought the media. I am going to give it a try I rather pay more money if I can get quality. With these Verbatim it seems like a hit and miss. And you don't know it is a miss until you record and playback. Too much time wasted on a game of hit and miss game. One is ok, the next is not. People are complaining about it over on Amazon too. So I know it had to be the disc. Thanks

And I've run into the firmware issue.

Another neighbor had an all too similar issue. They gave me some media that didn't work and it worked for me. Lucky for them that I know about the firmware issues and more so I updated the drives firmware and if by magic the bad media was instantly good.

Sadly I don't see you answering my questions so I'll just subscribe and see if you want to look into this common issue.

firmware

I'm sorry. I didn't understand you when you mentioned firmware. What exactly do you mean. Do you think someting is embedded in my software, like the cd's? Interesting. Like that mess sony put in their cd's.

Here's a quick overview. In the DVD recorder there is "code." This code is called firmware and contains how to write to media.

Here's a link to some tools to find out the make/model and firmware of your drive.

a. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
b. More specific tool for CD/DVD drives at http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

Hint, we don't need to run the speed tests. We just want to find the make, model and firmware version in the drive.
