I believe I saw a similar query last year regarding the E71x and/or S60 FP3 in general. Needless to say, my wife hated her E71x also and switched to an iPhone.

So far, I hate this phone for many reasons, but since I bought I will have to live with it. I have looked everywhere for an answer to my problem and have not found one. My problem is this. The same entries appear multiple times in my address book because my phone is reading from both the sim and the phone memory. This seems like a simple solution; just change the address book settings to read from one or the other right? NOT! I have tried to change the settings in my address book to read only from the sim or only from the phone memory a hundred times, but it automatically reverts to "Several Memories" no matter what I do. Some have suggested erasing my contacts from one or the other. Although I have tried this (and it does not fix the problem), I would like to state here that if the phone has the option to select which memory to read from, then it is intended by the manufacturer that you can choose which memory from read from WITHOUT having to delete contacts from one place or the other. AND, that if this feature is not working properly, then it needs to be fixed, not just WORKED AROUND. I am so tired of spending hundreds of dollars for expensive technology only to find that it is a piece of crap that was slapped together by people who have no dedication to perfection and quality. I don't ask things to do things they are not supposed to do. I just want them to do what they are supposed to do and do them well. I will get off my soap box now.
OK, I tried deleting my contacts from my phone memory. The address book still reverts back to the "several memories" setting. Also, the caller ID does not work as apparently this feature reads from the sim card contacts. So I copied all the contacts to the sim card and erased all them from the phone memory. The address book still reverts back to the "several memories" setting. My caller ID works, but guess what? Now my voice activated dialing won't work because it apparently reads only from the phone memory. This is very frustrating. I have been through every setting in this phone dozens of times. I have reset is back to the original factory configuration multiple times. I have updated it to the latest software with the Nokia PC Suite. The only thing I have not tried was throwing it in the lake because I don't have enough money to buy another smartphone (or dumbphone in the case of the e71x).
I will never buy another Nokia phone again and I am going to go around to every review site I can and leave the most negative feedback possible on this phone. But in the meantime, it's all I have so please help me fix this problem. Thanks. (One very upset and frustrated tech user).
