Nokia 6820 vs. Motorola MPx220 Smart Phone, other suggestion

Jan 27, 2005 12:59PM PST

I can get either of these for free with a plan on wirefly, but I don't know which to get. I am most concerned with call quality and battery life. I want to have good ringtones and games, good text messaging, and a phone that is nice to look at with a clear screen. I also want to be able to hear the person I am talking to. my last phone was too quiet in both speakerphone and normal use. I also want a lightweight phone, and I will pay more money if it means the phone is the best in all of these areas. thanks for any suggestions or opinions

mpx220

I just returned my mpx220 to Cingular. Max. call volume was too low, screen invisible in bright light, back of phone kept falling off, volume switch on side of phone always adjusted by accident by picking up phone. Input by phone keypad way too slow for any serious pda use. This is primarily a phone with some very slow pda features. If you buy, get extended warranty..this thing is fragile and slippery.
alternative #1 - smartphone with better pda features, like siemens sx66 or treo 650. you'll get more convenient pda if you don't mind holding a calculator size device to your face to make a call.
alternative #2 (the one I took) get a bluetooth enabled phone like a Motorola V551 and put the money you saved towards a good bluetooth enabled pda. you'll gain faster surfing with 551's edge tech., wi-fi capability from pda, (I bought Dell), better volume and screen visibility, a more rugged phone. Sure, I'd rather carry one device than two, but the smartphone capabilities are much too limited at this point.

#1 vs. #2

Thanks for that reply. I have been favoring your second option, actually.

Why did you choose the Motoroala as the Bluetooth phone? How is it's battery life and camera? I want a Bluetooth enabled phone with a good camera.

How big is your Dell (is it the X30 or the X50 Axim)? Does it fit comfortably in your pocket?

Motorola MPX220 Sound so poor its unuseable.
Feb 23, 2005 8:49AM PST

I agree its a horrid phone.
I have firmware 1.30.0.0

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14315.1.1.2)
Cingular in California

I have gone thru two MPX220's and both are very poor in sound quality.

I have to watch it while driving to catch any calls.

And when I do catch a call, I have to pull over, roll up the windows and have everyone be real quite so I can hear the other party.

Its un resolvable even with "hacks"!

Motorola MPX220 Sound Quality so poor its an useable phone

Motorola Service center is an excercise in futility and no help whatsoever.
