No wifi after Windows 10 upgrade

I hit the automatic upgrade prompt on my computer about 6 weeks ago. At first it didn't work. Then after a second time it did but it knocked out my wireless driver. I've chatted 3 different times with Windows support and tried reinstalling the driver several times but it still doesn't work. We even rolled back to a previous restore point and that didn't help either. I'm using a Gateway desktop that's about 4 years old. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

- Upgrade from what to what?
- Anything strange in device manager for this device?
- What do you mean with "knocked out my driver"?
- Are you sure it's not a hardware error?
- Most desktops don't come with wireless built in, so what is your wireless?

No WiFi after upgrade

In reply to: Re: upgrade

I had wireless service before the Windows 10 upgrade. My desktop is a Gateway all-in-one. It came equipped with a wireless driver. I checked with Comcast, my internet provider to see if there was a problem on their end.. They said no. When Icheck connection in device manager, it shows Ethernet and airplane mode. No wireless symbol is seen.

Gateway made many models.

In reply to: No WiFi after upgrade

So the Comcast won't be the right place to ask. Since Gateway is now Acer I'd head to the support site for your model to see if they offer a few things.

1. Chipset driver.
2. WiFi driver.
3. App to turn on/off the WiFi.

These are not supplied by Microsoft or Comcast.

This is hard for many to accept.

Microsoft doesn't do a good job on drivers. We are still having to find drivers and deal with that.

If you can't find a driver that works then the usual 10 to 20 dollar USB WiFi is used.

Just last week I had a new Intel NUC PC without WiFi (didn't come with it) and used
It didn't require me to find a driver for W10 version 1803.

wifi driver died after upgrade. plus post upgrade slow down

In reply to: No wifi after Windows 10 upgrade

Hiya - same thing happened to me. Went thru my int'net provider who prowled thru all my software and found nothing. But ... the provider tech who brought me a newer updated modem suggested it was the wireless driver so I got an external (USB thingy) NIC and all is well. But golly, Microsoft, what are you doing with these upgrades. The last one a few days ago (6th, 7th? July '18) has slowed down tremendously my sign in - and asks if I want a newer faster, more secure sign in, then doesn't allow me to create one. Almost 4 minutes to get to my home page! I'm grumpy about this and there are so many fake, sleazy "Microsoft" tech support numbers out there I'm fearful of speaking to any of them.

Any ideas? Thanks,
