What can one do? I also hate the fact that my new camera has no viewfinder. (it's called progress)
I made a hood for mine from card and black tape. I increased the brightness of the screen and, with the hood, I get decent views.
An alternative is to use a small monitor connected to the composite out of the camera. Locate reversed on the camera shoe and make or buy a conical hood with a viewfinder eyepiece to fit the screen.
