when i go to a web page that has a video player or web page with a video link, the video does not display but i can hear the video playing. also, my system restore will not start up

...at the Tools menu. Advance tab. Scroll down to Multimedia and check "Play video...".
Some content is DIVX based so share one URL so the CODEC can be checked.

Maybe the video you are trying to view is a Flash video (from macromedia). Download free from here:

It's very heavy on use of Javascript and will launch other windows as well as let you select various video players. There are 3 players. Do all 3 fail?

Use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe) to test sound. In the Run dialog box, type dxdiag, and then press ENTER
