No U.S. Military APO AE Shipping from Dell!

Oct 8, 2005 4:26AM PDT

A group of military personel deployed overseas, including myself wanted to order the new Dell XPS M170 Notebook computer. To our surprise and dissappointment, WE COULDN'T! Dell DOES NOT ship to to military APO addresses! We think it's just a damn shame that Dell doesn't support their military. I guess when a company gets as big as Dell,
military customers don't matter! To make matters worse, we had found a 30% discount coupon code, which really had us excited. That is, untill we found out their policy towards military shipping. So, shame on Dell, for their lack of support for the men and women of the U.S. military!

(NT) Non shipment to APO/FPO

This policy of not shipping to non continental military bases/etc. is not new or unusual. It goes back to Army Post Offices(APO) and Fleet Post Offices (FPO) do not really have a "physical" place. Mail is brought to military and dependents by air.
I believe, but won't swear on it, that the USA agrees to not have mailings to APO/FPOs that could interfere with business of that country. This includes Tupperware, Mary Kay, and (obviously) Dells.
I would make a written statement to you unit with copy to Dell requesting some sort of special arrangement. Write your congressment as well; sorry you can't email them...

I think Dell or any company can make an effort especially when there is a theatre Sad Good luck, and F Dell for not putting foward the effort. You guys shouldn't have to waist time writing to public officials or even a forum.

IMO!!!!!!! BTW SOLDIER! Thanks for Serving

Just a thought

I know it is not as convenient, but I was thinking that you could create a computer configuration at Dell.com and email it to family/friends in the States and include the discount coupon code, too. They could make the purchase and send it to you, maybe. Using a mailing address in the States may be less of a hastle when it comes to obtaining warranty services in the future.

As far as I am concerned, military personnell should be bumped to the top of the list when it comes to accommodating customer needs. Thanks for being there for us!

Agrrement with Thought; Just Stating the Facts However

The regulations about shipping stuff (anything) overseas to military address (Army PO or Navy AKA Fleet PO) comes down to agreemeents and treaties the US has made with countries where US military personnel are stationed that say Product X can come in duty free and tax free if it is used only by military personnel and dependents. It cannot be sold, etc, etc.
I think the idea about configuring computer and going through state side person is good; consider any /how much duty will be required to get it in.
