General discussion

No TV when HDMI device hooked in

Hi,

I possess:
-Home theatre : PANASONIC SC-BTX70 on box, SA-BTX70 on system
-46" Plasma TV : PANASONIC TC-P46S1

My set up:
-Home theatre video out connected to TV via HDMI.
-(Sometimes) Laptop A/V out connected to TV via HDMI.
-TV audio out connected to home theatre via optical fibre.
-(For the moment) Normal antenna connected to TV (Cable IN plug), no cable or satellite.

My problem:
When a device connected to the TV via HDMI is powered on (the home theatre or the laptop), the TV channels (from antenna) are malfunctionning. A few channels are completely out, while others are blurry or snowy.

The thing is, I bought the home theatre in order to read blue rays and DVDs yes (and there is no problem with that application, and there is no problem with using the laptop on the TV neither) BUT, my other main objective was to listen the TV programs audio ON the home theatre. But if the home theatre is ON, the TV channels don't work or work bad.

Result:
I can only use the home theatre for sound from home theatre itself (blue rays/DVDs) or from the Laptop. I can't use it to listen the TV sound unless I unplug all HDMI devices connected to the TV.

I don't want to turn off the home theatre each time I want to watch TV. I want to listen to the TV's audio on the home theatre!

Does someone have had the same problem?
Does someone know the reason of that problem?
Does someone have a solution, maybe with the settings?

And that might be normal.

Is there another selection on the home theater that doesn't involve selecting a hdmi output..like maybe a composite or try component that has no connection to the tv? I believe hdmi 1.4 do address this issue. It has this specification call "audio return" and that might be what's for (I am guessing).

But in any case, the TV should have excluded all other inputs except the one you have selected (tv ant./tuner). Why it's getting these crosstalk I have no idea.

RE : And that might be normal.

Another selection?
I think there is the classic yellow cable plug (analog), but then, I would lose the HD, the yellow is for ipod video content wich cannot be transmitted via HDMI I think, that's what they said on the CNET review of that panasonic SC-BTX70 on youtube.

What do you mean with that

Ok, let's try this;

On the tv, put select to tv. On the HT, put select to composite (nothing connected here?). Tell us what happen if anything.

RE: Ok, let's try this;

There is no way of selecting the output of the HT. It's the source used by HT (INPUT) that we choose (Disc / SDcard / iPod dock / Aux: opt. fiber / Aux audio jack)

When I want the TV sound through the HT, I select the Aux: otp fiber on the HT. The thing is, even though I'm not using any video content on the HT nor do I use any of its menus, there is always a video signal going to the TV since in the last situation (TV channel sound on HT), if I change the TV input to the HDMI port for HT, there is this kind of HT screen saver.

Problem SOLVED

STORY:
I did more research on Internet: Sometimes, the cables emit interference affecting signals into other surrounding cables. All my cables were tied together for aesthetic reasons, then I separated the antenna cable from the HDMI ones, made it run the other way in a 90

Glad to hear the problem solved, and...

I bet "Monster Cable" do also, hehe.
