Question

No store-Needs 8.1 update-Wiping computer is not an option

Jan 14, 2014 11:25PM PST

I have tried everything under the sun to get the Windows store to work for the update which is threatening to disable my computer every 2 hours, it just won't. Their only suggestion on the forums after trying random run commands is to wipe the whole computer.

I have posted messages on Microsoft, because I don't want to lose the Microsoft Office package I purchased which will happen if I wipe, it's only downloadable ONE TIME.

Oh yeah, and in less than a year my Vaio keyboard is already crapping out but that's a whole other thread

Answer
Sounds like a clear warranty issue.

As to the wiping computer issue. Is this some owner/client that demands to use a PC without backups? I can't tell but the story sounds like a PC inside warranty and the owner needs to have the maker make good.

Answer
If your getting the disable message

every 2 hours that means you not using a registered copy of Windows 8. Are you using a preview? Typically in the installs I've done of Win 8.1 the option was in the store once all the Windows 8 updates were installed. I tried to install on a new Alienware and I think there is a issue because Dell isn't putting Win 8.1 on their laptops yet.

If you have a legal copy of Windows register it and the disable e very 2 hours message should go away,

The Office issue well if you purchase Office your basically purchasing the Key. Office is controlled by a key. If you download the trial from Microsoft all you have to do is enter your key and it will turn into the version you paid for.
