I apologize for the inconvenience. The television shouldn't cause the sound to actually not record. That would actually be up to the incoming signal and the DVR provider. I would recommend trying a different cable box to see if it continues.

I have been going batty for the past 3 weeks, trying to figure out why my recorded shows record without sound. I've tried several ways to connect the three devises - with audio & video wire, Coaxial cables - all together or separate. Nothing worked. Today, after removing the A&V cables and having them connected with only the Coaxials (which didn't work. Picture is great - sound while I'm watching but recording w/o sound)
A theory came to mind that I thought was ridiculous but I tested it out anyway. With each recording the TV has been OFF. Why would that matter, I thought, but I tested it out. Taped 3 programs. Had the TV on for the first 2 - turned it off for the 2nd. And guess what???? No sound when the TV was off but sound when it was on. WTH?!?!?! Tested this theory twice and both times, same outcome.
Anyone have any ideas why and how to fix this? I shouldn't have to leave the TV on 24/7 to be able to record the shows I want.
Also, with the programs that did record with sound. When I transfer them to another room - the sound quality isn't great and I'm not able to turn it up any higher. I thought I solved the issue by having the TV volume all the way up and plugging in my computer speakers and turning them up and down in my room that way. The sound quality was better, but still not high enough for my hard of hearing father and am not able to turn it up. No way of turning the cable box volume up. Used to be able to do that but they're not made that way anymore. (so the Time Warner Cable tech told me)
It's all a mystery to me - would love some input and help on this.
Thank you.
