no sound when playing dvd movies

This seems to happen to me from time to time. sometimes i reboot and it's ok. some times I have to use the restore and it works....I have normal sound from my speakers, so it must be some kind of a quirk..

I can record movies and then play them back in the dvd drive and I see the movies but no sound...I put the disk in my dvd player and every thing works..does any one know why this happens....
