No sound when playing a dvd on laptop

Oct 22, 2007 12:11AM PDT

Hi
I can see the pictures Ok but get no sound when I try to play a DVD on my HP Compaq laptop. I can hear music Ok so presume it's nothign to do with the sound card. I've checked the regional setting for the DVD and the laptop and they are both the same.
any ideas please?
thx
Anne

Which OS and which DVD player software you are using.

In the meantime, VLC Player should suffice until we sort this out.

"Vista Home Basic" does not come with a DVD player.
