Question

No sound over home theater with broadcast tv?

by flon_klar / October 17, 2014 3:17 AM PDT

I have a TC-P50G20 TV in conjunction with an SC-BT330 home theater. They are connected via HDMI and optical cables. Satellite TV and Viera programming (Netflix) have always worked fine with the surround sound setup.

I recently discarded my satellite TV and replaced it with digital broadcast TV via antenna. I now find that the audio for the broadcast TV programming will only play over the internal TV speakers. I have been completely unable to find any means of routing the audio to the home theater system. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? What am I overlooking? Thanks.

Answer
Usually a settings issue.

If the play is still over the speakers keep looking around the settings for external options.

I didn't find your exact model so I can't read the dozen model manuals to see where it is. Please folk, supply exact model numbers or better yet a link to the product in question.

Remember I'm taking your word the speakers are on.

In reply to: Manuals

Page 51 of the English TC-P50G20 at link shows the optical connection.

No manual I've found shows the on screen menus so I can't check it further. I'd call it in and ask how to change to external speakers.

Did you notice the manual's note about?

For some content it's PCM and in another Dolby Digital. I didn't see any indication it was 5.1 over the optical output. That could crimp some folk's plan.

PCM vs. DD
by flon_klar / October 17, 2014 8:00 AM PDT

@ R. Proffitt- Yes, I saw that note but wasn't sure how it might actually apply to my situation- until a short while ago when I read (on another forum) that Panasonic transmits NTSC audio via PCM and ATSC audio in DD. I will have to explore that pathway when I get home tonight. Thanks for your assistance.

And thanks to everyone who responded!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
