Question

No Sound out of my TV!

Jun 8, 2015 2:41PM PDT

I can't get sound to come out of my TV, which is my computer monitor. I disabled all other devices in the sound window, and for some reason, it's not recognizing my hdmi input. What did I do wrong?
I bought a new hard drive recently, and I switched it out on my PC. Basic stuff. I reinstalled Windows 7 basic- (the product key I retrieved from my old hard drive doesn't work, so I have to use the free version.) Other than those things, nothing has changed on my computer, or my tv. Never had speakers- only used the tv. Is there a driver or something I'm missing? Help!!

Rarely a newbie task

To get audio over HDMI is all about drivers for the OS and video card. Microsoft does not make this easy. Work over your post Windows driver install plan. There's something missing.

No one might guess this due to no make/model/detail about the PC

Answer
get driver files from manufacturer

they are specific to the equipment on that computer. Nobody is lucky enough that windows has them all when it's installed. The process of installation involves putting windows on it and then loading all driver files for the motherboard and then also for the devices attached to the motherboard.
