no sound on start-up

Mar 30, 2005 8:51AM PST

I have a new Toshiba Satellite A75 notebook with windows xp. Randomly on start-up, my sound will not function. If I open control panel and click on sounds and audio devices, it is greyed out. My sound driver is RealTek AC97. I have installed the latest drivers but problem persists. Has anyone else had the misfortune of having a similar problem on their laptop?
