If the BIOS update (a doubtful advice, by the way) succeeded, you can go back to factory conditions yourself if you have the restore disks that came with the laptop or that you made (or now make) yourself. Just use those to go back to factory conditions. No need to have HP do that.
But first copy everything you don't want to lose to an external hard disk. And from there to another PC or laptop, just in case that external disk decides to break down before you copied that data back. Those things do really happen.
I assume you already did a scan for viruses with a CD-based antivirus tool (there are others than Norton, and most are free) and for other malware with MBAM and that those didn't find and remove anything. If not, post back for more detailed instructions.

Hello! I'm using an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop. I have a big problem: there is no sound coming from my laptop (in any situation whatsoever). Also, whenever I try to play a game (whether on Steam or otherwise), I face a horrible, crippling lag. Even on the menu screens, on games I was able to play perfectly fine three days ago. There's a horrible delay on my mouse, I can't click anything, it basically turns everything into a slideshow, with frames moving every few minutes.
It all started day before yesterday; I was playing a game and I got a message from Comodo Firewall saying that there was a malicious item on my computer. This was when the sound problem started; I'm not sure about the lag. Before I could do anything, though, the box disappeared. The next day I installed Norton Antivirus and ran a full scan, but it said that there wasn't any viruses on the computer. I then got another warning from my firewall; this time I clicked "clean".
Also, when I turned off my computer after running the full scan and turned it back on, HP asked me to run a BIOS update. I did that, but the problem persisted. To fix the sound, I tried to update the drivers through the "device management" thing; that did nothing. I have no idea how to fix the video lag issue.
My specs are:
Hp Pavilion dv6
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Core i7 processor
AMD graphics card (I don't know which, but I know it was good enough to play all of the games which are now lagging)
I went to a tech support place, and they said that the only thing I could do was send the laptop back to the manufacturer to have it wiped. I don't want to have to lose all of my data! Please help me!
