I use Windows Me. When I go Add/remove progams, Windows Setup, Multimedia there is not a tick in front of it. When I put the tick there and click apply I get a copying file window saying imaadp32 not found. Can anyone tell me how to get my multimedia and sound back?

If you had sound etc. on it before, try the System Restore back to a time when you know you had it. It is a driver file that is addressed in Microsoft's KB:
