Question

No sound from new sound card

I installed the rocketfish 5.1 PCI sound card on my computer that I just installed windows on. I restarted the computer and plugged in the speakers and no sound. I have xp home with service pack 2. The volume is turned up and the speakers work in other devices.
I installed drivers from the included disc. I tried uninstalling them and getting the driver from rocketfish website and still no sound
I just want sound, cheaply. Nothing fancy. Should I return the sound card and buy something else guaranteed to work

tried all but the last step

I shut off sound in the bios start up
I made sure the sound card was the default device in sound properties
Made sure it wasn't muted
Now i'm going to shut down and take card out and restart to uninstall and start all over.

in the mail today came a $3 external sound card and it worked as soon as I plugged it in. I'm going to return that awful rocketfish.

Answer
There may be 2 other drivers needed BEFORE the Rocket

The usual TWO DRIVERS I find myself installing is the MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET DRIVER PACKAGE and for HiDef audio the MSUAA (see google) that the audio card maker tells me to use.

I don't see where you installed those.
