no sound device

Mar 9, 2004 9:26AM PST

I have a new home build computer with an ECS k7som+ motherboard. Everything is integrated on the board, such as sound, video and nic. I cannot get sound or nic to work. I have the motherboard cd and have went to setup and run that, but it installs reboots and still does not work. Windows does not have drivers for this brand. Some of the onboard stuff has name ?SIS?. Any help will be appreciated.

Make sure that the on board devices you want to install are enabled in the BIOS or Windows will not look for them and the MB CD ROM will not place drivers for them either. Next, it is possible or even probable that newer device drivers are already on the manufacturers web site. Of course you would have to download them to another PC first. You should also look to see if the hardware is showing in the Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager (presuming Win XP). If you see evidence of unconfigured hardware that Windows has found, it will be flagged and you can often fix it there. It might be possible to do so by browsing the CD for driver folders that look as if they are for specific hardware. These usually end with the extension .inf. You can point to these when attempting to add devices manually. Hope this offers some bit of hope. Keep pluggin' away. Oh, BTW, SIS is a chipset manufacturer as is Intel and the chipset contains circuitry and such that interface with the processor, RAM and other peripherals on the MB. Good luck.

I didn't think to look in the bios. Just had to enable the onboard lan and audio. Thanks
