Sound Blasters so you just plug it in and see if it's detected. Otherwise, knowing the model, you should find drivers on the Creative Labs site under discontinued or archived types. Something doesn't sound right with your hardware, however. You said the machine has a 1.2gb drive. XP needs more than that just for it's own folder. I'd also say that if you've only 256 megs or RAM, you're borderline operational and will likely experience problems with some software or hardware.
I use an old HP pavilion & it works fine but the cd rom went & I was given a dell B110,but it has no sound card installed. The PC nerd kid down the street gave me a sound card & I know enough to install, but can you just plug it in or do your need to download a driver for this card? I have XP with 256MB & 1.2GB HD in it, it works great but I can't play DVD's or my magicjack because it says "no sound system" installed. I can use the cd rom for music & play in the car but no sound on PC at DVD player. The card is a "sound blaster" model. I can't afford a new PC,so just getting free parts from people & seeing if I can install them.
