No sound and CD Drive will not open

by tamjamlee / September 10, 2005 4:38 AM PDT

I have a windows xp,I cannot get any sound, when I go into entertainment and click on sound recorder,it says a sound device is not installed. When I click on volume it says ther are no mixer devices available.
In device manager, there is a yellow exclamation point by MPU-401 compatable midi driver, clicking on property it states the device is not using any resources.
Also my printer AND the CD Rom Drive has stopped working. Can anyone please help me?

A cd drive that won't open if you press it's open/close button either has no power or is defective. Replace it.

To say anything sensible about the printer, much, much more information is needed. Try the printer troubleshooter in Help and Support.

No sound and problems lie this = uninstall and reinstall drivers. It might help, although you only know afterwards.

If all of these problem came together and suddenly, you might have a serious (hardware or virus) problem.

Hope this helps.

In the Device Manager, double-click on the device with the exclamation point next to it to bring up its properties. Click the "General" tab, look in the "Device Status" section. What does it say? Is there an Error Code number listed?

I do have some more ideas on this, but lets start with the error message for the device.
