Question

No sound after upgrading to Windows 10.

Mar 15, 2016 6:08AM PDT

Quite simply after updating to Windows 10 I've have had no sound on my computer for months now and don't know what to do. I've updated drivers like 12 times and I still don't get any sound and it's annoying having to put headphones in all the time. I have an Alienware and the crappy part is that I'd only had it a couple weeks before it happened. It happend right after the update so I'm guessing it has to do with something on the OS. Please help. Thanks.

To prove it's not a hardware problem

1. Try using a live Linux distro to see if you have sound.
2.If you have sound with Linux , it's still a software/driver issue.
3. Restore to factory condition and see what happens..
4. If you still have no sound contact Alienware for warranty repairs.

reload the driver files for motherboard

It's likely W10 used generic drivers during the upgrade and they don't work with your motherboard. If the manufacturer doesn't have any for w10 yet, use the w8 ones in compatible mode.

I had no problem with sound drivers. If I were you I would go to the Dell site online. Make sure the machine is registered. You can to a scan or even do an online chat with Dell support and they can even do a session. Your probelm isn't the OS it's the drivers for the sound card. The drivers are what interprets the talk between the OS the sound card.
