NO SOUND AFTER REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

May 20, 2005 4:49AM PDT

Hello,
Have a HP a340n,80 GIGS. new computer. it crashed, froze, and I did a reformat, then installed Windows XP Home Edition again, well, I plugged a set of headphones into the front of my computer, and after doing so, i lost all my sounds. it thinks that it is still there, but there is no sound. I tried installing and updating the drivers again, Realtek AC97, and still no sound drivers., when I looked into the system info, it shows yellow highlights on all the kernel applications listed. how do I get my sound working again?
Thank you ahead of time for taking the time to help me with this, You all have helped me many, m any times before, and I really apporeciate this.

I used the original Windows XP home edition Cd that we bought. So will try HP.COM now. Thank you for this suggestion. I will try it now.

A Restore disk from HP?
May 20, 2005 2:43PM PDT

A restore disk would have the audio drivers pre-installed.
The XP disk from a store 9aftermarket) will not have any sound drivers for current hardware, only old legacy might show up.

Drivers from HP.com as Bob suggested.

If the drivers were there and working and you have not screwed them up installing other drivers, try deleting all the entries in device manager that have YELLOW warnings and then reboot and let XP redetect the hardware. If the drivers are there, XP will put them back correctly.
