I guess I need a driver, but Im tempted to get some inexpensive speakers, instead. Might be easier to do. Speaker is "Lexpro ls 315".

Um, under no circumstances should speakers need a driver. If you're not getting sound, it's either your speakers aren't plugged in right, are defective, there's a configuration problem regarding your sound card, or the sound card is defective.

Im trying a used card I got from a nearby puter store. After popping the hood, I found that I didnt have a card, per se, just a little metal box that seems to be attached to the MB. I thought Id go ahead and put the 'new' board in, and see what happens.

I finally got around to downloading drivers for my "new" sound card. The automatic system they used for detecting my soundcard and downloading the correct drivers for it did not work, so I used the manual method.

I now have about 35 new icons on my desktop. Whats next? I guess I shouldve made a folder for the drivers, first?

Do you know how to drag and drop or cut and paste?

If so go to Windows Explorer -> expand the Windows folder-> select desk top. In right pane create new folder naming it Sound Drivers then drag and drop or cut and paste those 35 new icons to this folder.

Then close all applications, click on Start->Run->Browse
Browse to C:\windows\desktop\Sounddrivers and look for a file named setup or install. Select this file -> click open ->click run. If you selected the correct file sound driver install will start

I created the folder, moved all the files, and restarted. When the box came up saying a new device had been found, I pointed it to the folder where the drivers were. I can still not hear anything from my speakers, which may indicate that my speakers are bad. Ive put on earphones and can faintly hear music from the old connection, but not to the newly installed sound card. I was wondering if I need to delete the old connection in order to use the sound card -- the puter guy who sold it to me thought it would be superior to what I had on my puter. But also I guess theres the possibility my "new" sound card isnt working?
