hi could someone please help me i havent had sound on my comp for a while now and no one seems to know why.
it started when i reinstalled windows xp i had to do this because i had a virus that stopped it from working. after i reinstalled xp my comp was fine except i had no sound.
i found a cd (Foxconn motherboard installation cd) which had RealTek AC'97 on it, i tried to install it but when it gets to about 80% a windows logo comes up saying, ''Realtek AC'97 Audio has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows xp ect.. so i tried to download it from the realtek site but it said the same if i continue the download it installs AvRack and nothing else it also shows up in the add/remove programs list but it doesnt work.

"not passed windows logo testing"

Usually all I do at that point is tell it to install anyway. But if you didn't install the motherboard driver package first the sound usually fails.

How I fixed my no sound problem on my Foxconn mobo
Jun 3, 2009 5:06AM PDT

For me I have a foxconn socket 478 661mxplus motherboard and no sound.
The os is xp pro. No audio device detected in the device manager and no indication of any hardware problems.
I downloaded the latest driver from foxconn for this mobo and installed. Still did not work.
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/support/downloads.aspx
I then downloaded the latest driver from Realtek AC97 and installed this no better.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC

Then i downloaded the latest bios update from foxconn. I unzipped the download.
I installed the foxconn super utility that came with the mobo cd and this provides a bios update utility. I ran this pointed it at the unzipped download bios file. It had a newer date on the file than my old bios. When I clicked on the update button it indicated this bios was the same but I asked it to continue anyway and install the latest download bios.
I then restarted the system and no change.
I restarted again and pressed the delete key during startup so I could go into the bios settings.
wandered around until I found the integrated devices and audio and it was disabled.
I suspect the new bios update had disabled this because I had previously made sure it was enabled.
I enabled it, saved, started the system and viola! sound.

Maybe this will work for you.

AMG thanks so much K MAN

Hia, I signed up JUST SO I COULD THANK YOU. Recently I tried to upgrade my PC I use for my projector to win 7, even though I diddnt really need too.. at one point I loaded safe defaults from the bios, and later forgot about it. Once Win 7 was installed I tried everything to get audio to work, drivers, everything, an entire day trying to get it to work, in the end I figured win 7 must not support my drivers or something, so I reinstalled XP. STILL NO LUCK!

In the end, ALL IT WAS, was that I had not loaded optimised defaults!! That done, windows picked up device and its all good! So thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks! Really mean that thanks KMAN!
