No Sound!?!?!?!?

by bettyp02911 / July 22, 2005 10:47 AM PDT

Hi! Something happened somewhere about 4 weeks ago and I cannot figure this one out! I have no sound at all; cannot play system sounds or otherwise. I have tried the available troubleshooters and nothing seems to be wrong; I am told devices are working properly! Any ideas???
I am running windows xp home version 2002 sp2; manufactured by viscom technology v2premier; P4 cpu 2.55 ghz 480 mb ram. Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

anything wrong with your drivers?

your drivers may be causing this, or if you have another set of pc speakers lieing around, try those as you speakers could be dead.

Thanks...I already switched speakers thinking maybe that was the problem---but the speakers I have work on the other system!

I had the same trouble with an eMachines. I finally hooked up a pair of HP speakers and they worked.

Unfortunately, I found this posting because I have experienced the exact same scenario. It happened about 6 mos ago. I don't have a lot of time outside of work; however, I have spent many hours trying suggestions I've read through various postings.

Sadly, after even trying to update the driver, I have not had any luck. I have had no luck w/ my manufacturer (Sony). I did notice something curious: when it happened, I lost my ability to receive Windows updates (icon gone, MS website won't let me get them). ? I'm pretty much resigned to buying a new PC. I've tried the obvious (speakers work, plugged in correctly, have power), restoring, a new sound driver or original driver (as mentioned), some have suggested it's my BIOS, but I can't find / figure out how to correct. If I go to my control panel, it even shows I have no sound device anymore. ?

Maybe one of these options will work for you, and I hope so. Just sharing the misery and experience. I have been very vigilante in keeping my system free of adware, spyware, and viruses - not saying something did not get me, but this is the only symptom.
