No Sound !!!

Feb 2, 2004 9:33AM PST

Windows XP SP1
P3 800mhz
316MB RAM
2 HD 80GB & 10GB

Sound Card: Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM)

I can?t get any sound from my desktop computer. The drives for the sound card are installed and working fine. I took them out and even got new ones through MS update and the Creative website. The media players won?t even let me anything, WMP give me an error message.

Windows Media Player Error Message:
?Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.?

When I click more info this is what I get:
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
?
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

I did the troubleshoot thing but it was unable to help me. I even turned my PC off, took out the soundcard, started it back up without a sound card, then turned it off again put the soundcard back in, hopping that it would be fixed.

When I go to ?control panel/system/hardware/device manager?, the driver for the card is there, but when I go to ?control panel/ sounds and audio devices? I can?t change anything because it says no audio device. I even used utilities to see if they saw the card and they did. When I go to ?control panel/ sounds and audio devices/hardware? the driver is listed there and it?s working fine.

The only problem I see is ?control panel/system/hardware/device manager? where there is a yellow exclamation mark next to ?Microsoft Kernel Acoustic Echo Canceller? and ?Microsoft Kernel GS Wavetable Synthesizer?

The both have this error
?Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)?

I tried uninstalling them and restarting but they come right back.

I really don?t want to have to reinstall Windows, can someone help me with this?

I usually boot SAFE MODE, use the Device Manager, set it to show all devices and can use its remove driver feature to roll back to no driver. On the next boot I can offer the drivers I think will work.

I usually discover that I didn't actually do the procedure or delete the drivers or I was getting the wrong drivers or the card is dead in some way.

Your machine information is incomplete. I dropped a too subtle hint that I was guessing what the machine was. Such guessing is bad. Just so we're clear, tell more.
