No Signal To Monitor

Feb 10, 2006 1:55PM PST

I am having a problem with getting a signal to my monitor. The computer has a Win98 Op system. Previously, when I turned it on I would get the "No Signal" message on the monitor and would turn it off and on until I got a signal. Now regardless of how many times I turn it off and on nothing happens. I have a lot of work on the computer and need its use desparately. Can anybody help me.

Thanks in advance.
Rickaroo

Just a troubleshooting thought
Feb 10, 2006 6:49PM PST

Check your Cabling (monitor cable on the monitor itself and on the computer)

OR

Unplug the power line, Open the case, remove the VGA card, (clean it / wipe it with a lint free cloth), and then put it back in the slot..

OR

Move the card in other slot.

OR

Try other monitor if possible, If you still get the same result, then try other VGA card...

If you still have a problem... then you might need to replace your motherboard.

Tried New Card
Feb 14, 2006 1:24AM PST

Tried a new card (radeon 7000 AGP, since this is an older machine) still got nothing. Saying that I was turning the machine off and on, I was actually pushing the reset button over and over until I got a signal.

The system specs are: Win98, PentII, Trident 975 Video card, using a Belkin 2 port switch. I flip flopped all of the cords to test the switch and the second system works fine on either side so it's not the switch.

Need help fast.

Thanks,

What I've Tried
Feb 14, 2006 2:44PM PST

Here?s a rundown of the problem and what I?ve tried so far

Here's all the system info:
Custom built Win98 sys
Pentium II processor
Trident 3D Images 975 AGP Video card.

Started having the problem of no signal and I would turn the system off and on until I got a signal. Problem got worse ? started taking longer and longer to get a signal. Once there was a signal and Windows loaded, within minutes the system started freezing up. Now I can't get a signal at all. I'm running two systems (Win98 and Win XP) and one monitor with Belkin 2-port PS/2 KVM. I Switched the cords and the XP system shows fine, so it?s not the switch. Saying that I was turning the machine off and on, I was actually pushing the reset button over and over until I got a signal.

The system powers up, I can see lights flash on the cd roms (2).

Tried a new card (Radeon 7000/ AGP/ 32MB, since this is an older machine) still got nothing.
When I tried the new card, I noticed that the CPU cooler fan was not turning. Don?t know if that means anything.

Need help fast. Have had the system for a long while and it has served me well.
Although it's a second system, I've got some very important stuff on it.

Thanks,
Rickaroo
