No reception in my house

May 1, 2005 3:18AM PDT

I have Verizon service. If I step out of my house I get a full signal. If I am in my house I get no signal. I have tried several phones, has made no difference. I have many PC's in my house and verizon claims it is all of my PC's. I disagree... I am a computer engineer. I work in a concrete building 2 two stories underground in a room with 350 High end servers and I get a great signal at work. Any ideas?

Some ideas maybe

I'm curious what is a computer engineer? You design PCs? You use PCs in some way? I'm not trying to be smart alec here just I might be able to help more if I understand what you know. If you are a EE you probably know most I could say about frequancy, shielding, building design, etc.

Turn off the PCs and see

It'd be fairly easy to turn off the PCs and see if reception gets better. In fact I'd sugest you turn off everyting in your house to see if it's anything electronic or electrical. Although even off wires in the walls and possably other metal can interfear. Also is there some other kind of transmission tower maybe line of site between your closer cell tower and the house? A few feet can be a large difference in something like that. Side note we used to loose a certain TV station when the neighbors van had been parked in certain places. Yeah it's a totally different broadcast band.
I always wondered about that insulation that has the metal backing. Does that block RF and or possably microwaves? Be interesting to know. Metal roofs could be an issue too. Especially if the tower is up a hill from you.

Save yourself some money and just use a real phone that plugs in the wall. No cell phone technology can guarantee coverage 100% of the time.
