Question

No printers show up in "devices and printers"

Jan 18, 2014 9:03AM PST

I've installed the CD that comes with my HP printer cp1025nw, and it appeared on the desktop, but it is not appearing when I go to control panel and view "devices and printers". In fact nothing appears there. Is this the fault of a virus that goes around deleting printer software? Is it something to do with the printer itself? When do printers appear here - when they are connected via a USB? When they are working properly?

Any help is appreciated.

Did you tested the connection between your system and the printer? Was it properly installed? The icon on your desktop simply refers to the driver and management software for the printer not the printer itself. And last but not the least, the driver that you are installing is it latest.

Keep in mind, CDs are often out dated.

Head to hp.com, get to your printer's web page, get latest drivers and such.

There is some malware that causes this but let's get the latest from HP first.

You didn't mention operating system that you are using, take Mr. Proffitt's suggestion, go to Hewlett Packard support and drivers and do the download for your OS, there is a pretty good chance that the CD you have is out dated. If running a later OS, Vista or 7, or Win 8, determine if your system is 32 or 64 bit. Chances are if you do this, unless there is a hardware issue with the printer, you should be able to make it work.
