Resolved Question

No Password to Win 7.

Sep 11, 2016 12:19PM PDT

Hello Guys and Gals.
I bought a used laptop from a lupus/VA foundation thrift store called Unique Bazzaar. They are a state licensed second hand dealer/charity. SO I OWN THE COMPUTER LEGALLY.

My problem is...Password. I knew it was protected when I looked at it. But a cursory glance on my phone showed hundreds of tutorials on getting in.
They don't work for me. I did get into the sethc registry. I found the three accounts Administrator, Guest, and JANE SMITH.
I entered "net user JANE SMITH *". But instead of getting a prompt asking for a new password. I get:
NET USER
[username [password : *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]
username <password : *> /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN]
username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]
username [/TIMES:<times : ALL>]
What to do?
One thing I noticed is that the username in the command prompt box "JANE SMITH" does not match the username on the blue welcome screen "ChancEeEe.
All the tutorials i've seen show them as the same.
I've tried the net user ChancEeEe. It said user name could not be found.
Any help please.
Thanks, Rocco.

I read this twice so what's the issue?

Need to reset the password? Simple 5 minute job with NTPASSWD. As that's free and how to use on the web I don't write more about it.

You claim you have the OS legitimately and if so, just reload W7 and start fresh. Or ask the supplier to give the support you expect.

best bet would be to just reinstall the operating system. there should still be a recovery or restore partition. now telling what other custom settings you may find. If you cannot find it, please provide the full model number of the computer.
