No Network connection after Brastk.exe infection

Nov 9, 2008 5:04PM PST

My PC recently got infected with the brastk.exe virus - I followed removal instructions on various forums, including this one,and seem to have got rid of it. Running malwarebytes now detects nothing, and the irritating bubble message from the task bar has finally gone.

Problem - since infection I've been unable to connect to the internet. Network is set to obtain IP address automatically, but it fails to do so. I tried to reinstall from ISP CDrom, but this process falls over when it tries to assign an IP address.. Any ideas?

Writing this from my work PC..

Just a thought.....

give this a try:

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections. Then right-click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using dial-up, and left-click on the Properties option. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Go to Start > Run.... In the Open: field type cmd and press the OK button. This will open a Command Prompt.
Type or copy & paste the entire contents inside the QUOTE box below into the command window:

QUOTE
ipconfig /flushdns [/QUOTE]

Hit Enter and exit the Command Prompt.

Did it help?
