No!!!! My rio carbon problems

Oct 23, 2005 2:04PM PDT

My rio which i recieved as an xmas present, has started to malfunction. the problem is thus. I'll be listining to music all fine and dandy, but when i switch to certain(random) songs the player will freeze for a second and then turn off. I updated the firmware, and reloaded the songs on it. Has this happened to anybody else?

p.s-sorry for all the topics.

You might try this

Seems I have heard of this on Rio forum some time ago. Rio Customer Service suggested "reformat and reload". I believe this solved the problem. I recommend using 1.32 firmware to avoid the french volume limit unless you need the latest 1.95 for music downloads.

Hope this helps.

I think I know what's wrong with your Rio!

because your rio carbon is SDMI-Compliant it means that if you download songs and not pay for them that usually there's a virus on some of the songs therefore it freezes then turns back one again and switches over to the next song. I know this because I had an Iriver and it did the exact same thing.

Kidding

I think Steve was kidding you.

Reformat and reload. Did you try this? What firmware are you using? french volume limitation is on ALL firmwares after 1.32.

Same or similar problems on my Rio Cali
Oct 25, 2005 5:58AM PDT

I reformated, re ripped using EAC and LAME 3.90 the offending songs and I still have these issues. Most of the time it is when I have ripped an MP3. WMA seems to work fine but I have multiple players and some are not WMA compliant. So the problem exists but no cure for months. No answers from RIO either. Also found out that the 1 GB SD card I bought does not work with the Rio Cali. 512 is the highest. Biggest problem is the CD's I am purchasing have copy protection and I am unable to get around it for MP3 ripping.
