Saw on TV and wonder what the backend of the story

In reply to: No money? Out you go. (Patient put out in the cold.)

would tell. It would seem she is homeless and I could wonder why she walked into the hospital in the first place. Hospitals are not a place one wants to stay for long. People who aren't sick, can get sick there. Perhaps some social worker in the hospital didn't do their job by trying to locate a shelter for her if she had no address. You won't know the whole story just by watching the news.

It's shameful.

I don't think that's allowed in the UK. Some politician should take this up on behalf of the lady.

This is Maryland, where I live

In reply to: It's shameful.

It's one of the MOST Liberal states there is. High taxes, both income and sales tax. Even septic tank owners pay a tax on having one, which is totally unreasonable. I've seen better indigent care in Florida and it has NO income tax, no septic tank tax. So, where is all those taxes I pay going in a Democrat controlled Liberal state? Shows the hypocrisy of these Maryland Democrats.

Hypocrites.....no

People run for office so they can get access to a pot of money.

The money is used for pet projects or to buy votes.

That's the way politics works.

I live in a dem controlled state.....there are taxes on everything.

It's amusing to see them spin stuff so they they can add something to the tax base.

As for the lady that was dropped off.
Now that the media has got involved expect to see some serious spin.

I didn't know the security officers were Democrats.

It's not possible for you to move?...To Florida?

RE:Even septic tank owners pay a tax on having one, which is totally unreasonable.

it could be worse, you could be on public water...

Public water users could see flush tax quadruple while septic users would pay double

Many homes on public water and sewer in Maryland could see their flush tax almost quadruple to over $117 a year for the Bay Restoration Fund — much higher than homes on septic systems, which would see the fee double to a $60 cap under Gov. Martin O’Malley’s proposed consumption-based tax. (

Gender designations are dead, dead and even more dead. In some places, not even in a delivery room is gender noted by the doctor on the legal certificate of birth.

I'm sure there is more to the story.

In reply to: It's shameful.

The hospital was part of U. of Maryland. In NM the go-to emergency hospital is part of UNM. They must take anyone who comes in, without charge if the patient has no means. That's a common setup in the US. The money of course comes from the ratepayers.
Governments consider two benefits from this. They have a first line of defense against diseases of poverty that can spread to the general population. TB is one such. Someone once wanted to refuse medical help to illegals in California , but cooler heads prevailed.
An overcrowded ER is also a training asset for a teaching hospital.
Maryland is a different state, but this would not have happened at UNM WITHOUT an overriding reason.

Rob, you know some unusual people, then.

In reply to: You can see the security guards leave her on the street

History says most people will follow despicable orders, given sufficient motive. Keeping a job, patriotism, whatever.
This happened in James' home state. I'm sure he'll be making efforts to ease her situation. And it won't be on the taxpayer's dime.
Stay tuned.
