No Internet Connectivity

by elsobrante / July 12, 2013 3:52 AM PDT

I have a former work computer that was part of a network at the office that runs on WindowsXp Professional. I can't access the internet at home as both aol and IE8 are unable to detect the connectivity device that's installed on this computer (Realtek ethernet NIC). I removed this computer from it's former domain and assigned it to a work group thinking this might be the problem but it hasn't helped. Are there any other configuration adjustments I need to make to gain internet access? Thanks, Wade

Unfortunately, I don't have the original WindowsXp disk to reload the computer and the company I worked for is out of business which is how I ended up with the computer in the first place. Wade

There are plenty of XP CDs for sale out there.

It's falling out of favor in many areas so it's become more available. You also have other OSes you can use in the meantime.

PS. Remember there is no supported way to change this after the install. Yes you can research how to but after watching folk try I think they deserve the pain and the lessons about this one. That is, knock yourself out!
