No internet connection with wireless network

Actually, I do have an internet connection on my desktop and another desktop that is wired to a Linksys wirless router.
My Gateway laptop that has a Linksys wireless adapter used to connect to the internet but now it won't. I had taken the laptop on a trip and after coming home I noticed that it wouldn't connect to the internet.

It is connecting with the wireless router with excellent signal strength, but no internet.

Granddaughter brought her HP computer to try and same thing with it. Shows excellent signal to the router but will not connect to the in
ternet.

I havn't changed any settings that I know of.

I tried turning off the firewall on the main desktop to no avail.

Using WXP Pro on the desktop and XP home on laptops.

When I hover the mouse pointer over the LAN icon in the tray it says a network cable is unplugged. But the wireless network adapter icon shows excellent signal strength.

I've got the same problem, and I don't know how to fix it. I can access my neighbor's internet router for some reason, but not my own, nor my school's. Whenever I try one of those two, it will connect to the router but not the internet.

I use a Compaq Presario 2800 laptop with Windows XP. I'm starting to think, however, that it's just the linksys equipment. I know a few friends who have the same issue.

For about 6 months on my gateway laptop with the wireless adapter card. Took it on a trip and couldn't find any place to connect close to my room so when I came home tried it here and now not connecting to internet.

Try this to get online

Go to Control Panel

Go to Network Connections

Go to Lan or High Speed Network

Right Click on the Icon

If the top word reads Enable click on it to enable the connection. When it is enabled it will say Disable, because then, if you click on that, it will disable the connection.

That's worked for me when I've had the same problem.

Hope this does it for you.

Do you think you might have the windows firewall enabled, that can cause a bunch of problems for individuals. Go to control panel, internet connections and check to see if there is a little lock above the icon you use to connect to the web. Also another possibility is your internal network card is not compatible with the wireless network you want to connect to, normally this is not an issue since the majority of cards are B/G cards but potentially you may have a wireless A router and a wireless B/G card?

Ok, Finally got internet connection on both laptops. I'm not sure what I did, just kept going over the settings and dble checking everything. I don't think I changed anything. It just started working.

Now if I could just get MSN messenger working for my Granddaughter I would be happy.

Same thing with it. It will not log on to MSN messenger. Even tho I have gone in and reset my password and all it still says password incorrect. arrrrggghhh.

I had this problem a few months ago and I don't remember what I did to correct it.

Works on my desktop but not the laptops.

had the same problem. If you try to do a ipconfig at a DOS prompt, you might notice your default gateway might be missing. Your laptop wireless sees the router but doesn't know the name of the IP to get out to the net. try repairing the connection from the "view network connection." Again sounds like the problem I had but not sure. I would try the repair though.

back when I had this problem earlier, as well as just now. I have no firewall up, and nothing seems to be working. I have completely reconfigured everything, I have all the necessary codes to connect to everything, yet this linksys refuses to connect to the internet. Maybe I'll just leave it alone until I can get someone over to my house to fix it, since it's much easier to fix something in person than trying to tell someone what to do. I'm not saying I can't follow directions but random changes fix computer problems.

Are you using your router as a DHCP server, or are you assigning static IP numbers to each PC on your network?

I've got no idea what any of these things are, haha. I would have back when I was in programming, but all I know is that according to my computer-expert-friend, I should be able to access the Internet through my connection. I deleted a lot of my knowledge of these issues to make room for AP Chemistry.

And also, I already had my WEP disabled or something like that. Maybe I'll just live with my current connection... after all, next year I'll be in college, and I'll be in a dorm somewhere very far away haha.

It might be because of your wep key, make sure you typed in the correct wep key when you connect.

this is all tryal and error method what peopel will advice you on line, i have tryed and use wireless
internet three year before, it was reall a hard ball and untill now situtation is the same.
the best way you call your nearest service provider to send you setup details by fax or by mail.
make sure to send them your detailed system requirment
and what you are using for wireless internet.

Try disableing your Security protection (i.e. WEP). Then on the router settings (on-line) go to security, MAC, and view MAC list. Add all computers on your network and then save settings.

I had the same problem and after working with LinkSys for about an hour on the phone it works perfectly!
