Tip

No idea what I'm doing:)

I'm about to finish my AA degree and I'm going to be going in to college for film. I'm going to be editing, rendering doing effects etc. on my own. I'm also a big gamer so I want to build a pc that will be able to handle both with ease.

I've never built a computer before and I'm not really sure what I need or what brands are better. I pretty much don't know anything about anything when it comes to building a computer or even planning to build it. What components I need etc.

Can I buy any tower/case?/Will everything fit or..?
What brands are best?
If 2 years from now I want to switch to a better graphics card or get a new cooling system etc. can I easily replace it?
Would adding ram in the future be easy?
What parts do I need =P
Also, I plan on recording gaming and fraps kinda sucks, so do I need a capture card?

I don't even know if I asked everything that I need to know.. Any help is welcome and appreciatedHappy

Thanks in advance!

I recommend you don't try building

Given your admission that you don't know how to do what you have in mind, why not go to some place like Dell's web site where you can configure your own system like you want it, it will be guaranteed to work out of the box, and you'll have a warranty to go with it.
`
Good luck.

Think about what you use now.

And 2 years is a long time for PCs. I'm seeing big changes in laptops that may change the common answer about gaming on laptops.
