No Home Theater system, only simple system help

by violini / October 19, 2006 3:08 PM PDT

I have decided not to go with a home theater sorround system. The reason is sound.
I have the following:
Onkyo M-5130 Power Amplifier (this thing ROCKS!)
Onkyo EQ-240 Stereo Graphic Equalizer
Onkyo P-3150V Infrared Wireless Remote Controlled Stereo Preamplifier
2 Onkyo S-38 3 way speakers, 8 ohm (need 8 ohm for the amplifier)
Yes, is 20 years old but I love the sound I get. With just 1 eight of an inch of volume it makes my house rock with no distortion of pitch or tone! So, I decided I am not going to throw any of these guys away.
I now want a flat screen, either DLP, Plasma or whatever. The point is that all I want is just the great sound that I have and be able to enjoy the great DVD's and CD's I have, watch the news from cable TV, and that sort of thing on a great flat screen, in stereo, no sorround sound or any of these new inventions, AND be able to control it all with a simple remote control. Both Onkyo units do have remote which I presume can be configured into an modern remote?
Do I purchase a new pre amplifier with AV? Many of those are made to feed 5 or more speakers which I can not stand, sound wise that is.
What do I do?

Audio pre amp
by sirroundsound / October 19, 2006 11:36 PM PDT

Look for a nice Audio pre amp, there still are many companies making 2 channel (stereo) equipment. You have the amplifier so a pre amp is all you need.
If you find pre amp's to be a little expensive, then a good receiver that has pre outs will allow you to still use your amplifiers.

sounds like an awsome stereo system but ha ha
by stewart norrie / October 20, 2006 10:06 AM PDT

5.1 or 7.1. digital sound is mindbending and with good speakers you will be drawn into the t.v. picture when you own a hi-def set and a 5.1. system its better than going to the movies What I did was take my anolog stereo to another room for music which would be awsome on your stereo system. then upgrade to a 5.1 system For me my stereo system rocks but for home theater you should save up and spend the big bucks ha ha have a nice day steweeee
