General discussion

No emails or notification emails...

Aug 10, 2006 9:31AM PDT

I haven't received any personal emails or those for tracked discussions, since I became a member two years ago. I do manage to get the Newsletters, however. I've tested it. I've logged in and logged out. I've reset all there is to reset. I have yet to read about anyone with similar issues.

Am I missing something? Other than the emails.. Wink
Perhaps there is a setting I've overlooked. Confused

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance..
Carol

Thanks for trying, Ray

Nope. Thanks for trying, though. I've had other's try before and it hasn't worked. Otherwise, I would be holding my breathe. It's not a matter of lag time, or a delay. I've never gotten one email. I can't seem to figure it out. As a matter of fact, I didn't even think the tracked email notifications was a working option, until someone mentioned it in passing recently. Now I know for sure - they both ''officially'' don't work for me! Sad

Thanks again..
Carol

(If I happen to receive it, you'll be the very first to know!)

Just a "thought".....

Could it be, your ISP is "catching" these e-mails\notifications as "spam" and block these ??

Maybe it is possible, you get a new e-mail addy, like yahoo, gmail ??

Thanks Marianna..

Coincidently, a friend mentioned the same thing. I had problems getting mail from her, due to my provider's filter. Maybe it's the same thing. Confused What I don't understand is how I manage to get the newsletters. If anything, I would think they would be blocked. I may try white-listing the address to see if it makes a difference. Would you happen to know if 'cnet-forum-subscriptions@cnet.com is the correct address?

Your input is always appreciated..

Thank you for the confirmation, Mr. ''Arama/aroma''...
Aug 11, 2006 11:42AM PDT

Or was it vice versa? I thought I had remembered the ''story behind the name'', but wasn't quite sure. If I do remember correctly, it all started as ''arama''. :^O

All that silliness aside, does any of this ring a bell to you? Can you think of any reason, other than what Marianna has suggested? I've added the address to my addressbook and also white-listed it. I'm thinking, maybe I've overlooked the obvious. Are there any specific settings for these functions, besides allowing emails?

Thanks again..

it seems as though all of the changes I've made are for nought.

Maybe when the forum is revamped, the situation will resolve itself. ( :^O ) Ya think?

Thanks again for your confirmation..

Hi Carol,

If changing your e-mail addy doesn't work - oh well, give it a chance first - I guess, you will have to wait for a little while ? Happy

You were NOT smiling ? - o.k. then, it would have been better to write: "Start and keep smiling" Devil

Try switching e-mail addresses...
Aug 13, 2006 1:32PM PDT

First, who supplies your e-mail services, Yahoo or MSN? (I believe those are the only two your ISP offers.) I know Yahoo has selected random Cnet e-mails and tried to place them in the Bulk Mail Folder (soon to be renamed Spam folder), but adding a filter to redirect all mail from the domain to my inbox corrected the issue. MSN may be trickier...I haven't used them in quite some time.

My suggestion would be to go into your Cnet profile and edit your account, inserting a different e-mail account. This may work two ways:
1.) If your ISP is simply blocking the e-mails before they even reach your personal filters you'd be able to receive them and find out.
2.) If it's a glitch on Cnet's end, changing your e-mail address and then changing it back may set things straight.

Good luck.
John

P.S. Yes, it did start out as ''arama,'' but after an unusually and curiously long lifespan the rat's being put to rest. Happy
