"No DVI Signal" with Radeon x700 Pro and Dell w1900 LCD TV

May 15, 2005 11:15AM PDT

Im running into a problem when hooking up the DVI cable to the w1900 and my ATI Radeon x700 Pro video card. It works fine with the VGA cable but when I try the DVI, the BIOS screen comes up and loads....immediately after that, I get "ATTENTION - no DVI signal" and the screen goes black.
I have talked to both Dell and ATI regarding this and to no avail. Until this afternooon......

I called the Dell TV support folks and they told me to try hooking up the VGA and the DVI to the w1900 and only hook up the VGA to the computer and set the w1900 to VGA. Then start the computer up. After Windows comes up, he told me to plug the DVI cable into the computer and leave the the VGA plugged in the computer and both cables plugged into the w1900, and switch the it to DVI. Low and behold the DVI was working!!!! Both the support person and I were completely stumped as to why it was working.

But now that I have at least got it working, I still cant leave just the DVI plugged in and get it to work without going through the whole process of the above.
Does ANYONE know why this is happening and how to fix it?? It seems that the w1900 isnt liking the signal that the ATI video card is sending immdiately after the BIOS screen loads??? Im stumped. If you have any answers I would really appreciate it. I want to utilize the DVI since thats why I bought this monitor, dont want to have to switch cables around every time I want to use it and it shouldnt be like that.

Dell Dimension 8250 / Windows XP Home Edition

Thanks
