Question

No Burners Are Currently Available

Good morning.
I have recently changed my laptop OS to Mint19.1 from Windows 10.
A good move.
When I insert a USB CD/DVD player/burner with a blank CD loaded the into the USB port, following message is displayed:-
"No Burners Are Currently Available......Check that you have Read Write access to the drive"
Could you give me pointers on resolving this please.
Thank you

Not much detail.

I have seen that with some CD/DVD recording software that doesn't work with a lot of drives.

Try another recording app like CDBURNERXP or IMGBURN or other from Ninite.com.
Why Ninite.com? To avoid toolbars and more from other download sites.

Hi.
Thank you for your reply.
I have tried Brasero, K3b and Xfburn.
All gave a similar message.
I have tried installing both of your recommended packages using terminal.
Both installs give the same response:-

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package imgburn.

Any further help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Imgburn was on Ninite.com for the Windows 10 test.

As to Linux, you need to post in the forum for that Linux. Here you only wrote Linux without which version and only that's it's a laptop. I gave it a try with what to try in Windows but must defer due to lack of detail on Linux. Even with the detail I'd be checking the distro's forum for priors.

Hi.
Thank you for taking the time to investigate my problem.
For the record I am using Linux Mint 19.1 on an Asus X540LA.
I will post on the Linux Mint Forums and see if I can achieve a result.
Thank you again.

Sounds like Linux mint file permissions are wrong. Try right clicking on that device in the file manager > click Properties > select Permissions tab and check the permissions. Make sure you have read & write access for you and not just for root. If not, open the file manger as root and change it.

Go into User/Groups using your GUI program for accessing that, may have to also click on an advanced button. Look in the cdrom area, put a check mark by your username allowing access to the drive.
