Question

No browsers are opening up on Windows

Apr 29, 2017 9:05AM PDT

Hey guys,
My computer will not open any browsers (There is internet explorer and Firefox installed). When I go to the desktop and click on Firefox, It says "firefox.exe-Unable To Locate Component This application has failed to start because mozglue.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." When I click on Explorer, the window opens for a few seconds, then closes.
If this helps, System Details: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3
Thanks for any help!

Answer
XP users are going to have to be careful, more backups

You as a XP user know that an update to an app can break this OS. In your case you want to try system restore to when it worked before restoring from your last working backup.

How would I go about doing this?

I have the System Restore tab open and there is a box labeled Drive Settings with a drive (CHappy and a drive PRESARIO_RP(DHappy
I have the option to click on either one and adjust a Disk Space To Use slider bar?

That doesn't sound like system restore

That sounds like the control panel that you set the size of system restore.

I know it's been years since XP shipped and right or wrong you have to be more careful about XP and be an eXPert on XP. Here's a tutorial on System Restore (SR) for XP.

None of these options are working
Apr 29, 2017 9:57AM PDT

I did the f8 thing on startup and the only version available was the one that I'm using now, that has the promlems... Sorry, I don't know a lot about computers, especially ones that are this old...

XP is very old now.

And if the article and what it notes fails you restore from backups. PCs are not good enough to go without backups or a way to factory restore the machine.

Since System Restore failed, you use the next method you can to get it working again. Reload, factory reset and so on.

When I left XP
Apr 29, 2017 11:51AM PDT

after checking multiple LIVE DVD versions of Linux, I chose Kubuntu, then moved to Linux Mint and I've never gone back to windows again. Mint was a natural move from XP for me, more than windows 8 and beyond.
