No Audio Using HDMI on the Samsung 32" LCD LNS3251D

Mar 20, 2009 9:42AM PDT

I have a 32" LCD LNS3251D and installed DirecTV wiuth an HD receiver with HDMI. I am able to get a great picture, but absolutely no audio. I tried connecting a DVD player to the LCD with HDMI and have the same issue. I have tried different HDMI cables on both ports and still nothing. I called 800-SAMSUNG and the only suggestion they had was to make sure the audio on the DirecTV box is set to PCM and not Dolby (checked that and it came as set to PCM by default). I do not see any firmware available on the Samsung site for this model. I am able to receive video+audio fine with the RGB cables, but obviously not HD. Any suggestions for HDMI and this Samsun LCD TV????

pwcrofton,

Have you checked to make sure that your audio isn't muted in the television? There are two ways - one with the remote (that causes a speaker icon to come up), and the other is inside of the menu.

Keep me posted.

I have check the menu on the TV and can not locate any mute option. When I switch to another source for audio/video, such as using RCA cables, all works ok. Can the TV be muted internally for just HDMI?

No sound
Mar 22, 2009 1:59AM PDT

Maybe its a setting on the HD receiver.
I had a similar problem with my "HD digicorder", when i setup the output to enable "Dolby" there was no sound on my TV, but i do have sound through RCA connections. When i switched off the "Dolby" i had sound on the TV.
Hope this helps.

Good suggestion and I checked again on the DirecTV HD box. They have a setting to turn on Dolby or leave it off (the default). This was thd only suggestion provided when I called 800samsun. I have it set to off as suggested. Any other suggestions? Much appreciated!!!

pwcrofton,

No, the internal mute would mute pretty much all inputs, not just HDMI. I'm not even sure I could narrow it down any further. I don't suppose there's another cable box you could swap to see if that's not the cause? I really wish I had a better suggestion, but outside of having a technician confirm that the box is in working order, I don't know what else to suggest.

I hooked the TV up to a DVD player with HDMI and had the same issue. Great video, no sound. Works fine when connected with RCA cables.

pwcrofton,

Have you tried calling customer service?

When did you purchase the television?

Yes, I called 800SAMSUNG and the only suggestion they had was to contact DirecTV who had already looked at it when hooking up the system. The TV is a little more than a year old and I had not used it with HDMI until now.

pwcrofton,

Did the DirecTV technician who hooked it up get sound when he installed the box?

If HDMI doesn't work with both the Cable Box OR the DVD player, than I'm leaning towards the issue being with the television, especially if you're able to get picture on the screen, and no audio. I might bring up the fact that both units don't work, and that you'd like to request a technician.

Keep me posted.

Hi

I have the above model, have had the capacitors replaced on the power board due to the TV not coming on. Now i am getting no adio what so ever... no sound... thought it could be the cable box.. but i plugged that in using scart to a port tv and it works fine.. the box is plugged in using HDMI to the LCD TV.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

I have the same issue with a Samsung DVD recorder
Jan 3, 2010 11:23PM PST

I have a Samsung DVD recorder R375 (I think) connected to a Panasonic 50" plusma with HDMI cable. some time DVD player stop playing sound and the only way I can get it to work is, disconnect the HDMI cable while it is playing and re-connect it back, sound coms back.

I have tried many things before finding this solution. I understand I am taking a risk but it works every time I have the issue, which is may be once a month or so.
