No audio through HDMI cables to TV

I have a 2014 HP Pavilion 17 laptop and a 2017 Sharp TV model 43lb481u. I connected the laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable and can watch the video portion of what's on the laptop but there is no audio coming through to the TV. I tried going to the laptop's Sound folder to activate any HDMI buttons to make that the default, but there are no such buttons. I found no such controls on the TV, either. Any suggestions?

It's usually in the Speaker selection.

Usually in settings, sound, playback devices. If HDMI is not listed, it's usually the driver from HP needs to be reinstall. HP made dozens of models that match what you told so I'll pause here.

Here's how I got the sound to go to the TV

Thanks much for the response. The answer, indeed, is in the Speaker selection. All of the speaker selections must be disabled except for the HDMI selection for the TV. For future reference for anyone interested, here's what I had to do: Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar. Select Playback devices. Under the Playback tab there were 3 choices -- TV/HDMI, Speakers and Audio 2nd Output. Select Speakers, and the Properties button becomes highlighted; click on it. That opens Speakers Properties. At the bottom is Device usage; it was set to Use this device (enable). Click on the down arrow next to it and select Don't Use This Device (disable), then click OK. Do the same for Audio 2nd Output. That forces the audio to go through the HDMI cable to the TV. To get sound through the laptop and its headphone jack (Audio 2nd Output) again, reverse the procedure.

If you ever need to automate it.

Oh my gosh

That's like a scavenger hunt to find and do.
